We Made It To Thailand!

It happened, finally. Thailand we have arrived! For what seemed like days (because it literally was) we have been sitting on planes, in airports, and taxis. After 30+ hours of traveling from Hawaii, we have touched down in the Land of Smiles.

View of Honolulu from the air!

Sunset overlooking Narita airport in Japan. Sitting in the airport is sometimes nice!

One of our 12 meals provided to us by the airlines, they feed you well!

Mmm delicious!

Probably 25% of that time was spent in the Bangkok airport (I joke, but it really seemed that long). Culture shock swept through our sleep deprived brains immediately after stepping off the plane, and began the adventure of figuring out how to get to our Airbnb without wifi or many comprehensive English speakers. For a moment, it felt like we were transported back in time when google maps and translate were a paper guidebook with a map and charades. Thankfully, this all ended when we finally found a counter to sell us a SIM card for Emily’s phone. Whoo thank you technology!

As we transported through the airport and in our taxi to the Airbnb, we traveled down a road of familiarity and differences. The human connection of two taxi drivers waiting and laughing at their stands, evoked feelings of nostalgia laughing with friends not even 48 hours before. Had the road signs on the highway not been written in Thai, the palms trees in the median would have had us believe that we were back in Miami. But as we sauntered through the narrow streets of Bangkok towards the Airbnb, we saw people frying snacks at food stalls, and washing pots in the streets outside their restaurants still at 2:00 in the morning. The friendliness of the thai people was easily recognized, as strangers helped by pointing us in the direction  we needed to go when we stepped out of the taxi with our backpacks looking obviously lost.

These unfamiliarities are very exciting, and we cannot wait to explore them more and become even more obviously lost around this city! And we are so grateful to even have the chance to be overly sleep deprived and jet lagged in Thailand. We are sorry that there are not more pictures to share, we are sure that you would not want to see the back of the plane seat that we stared at all day. But we promise we will share more of our experiences and pictures as we continue to explore!

Come adventure with us! And goodnight, It is time to sleep.
